ENCOUNTERS WITH HCI PIONEERS -A Personal Photo Journal
Ben Shneiderman (University of Maryland, USA)

Ben Shneiderman, an HCI pioneer himself, created "The Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Pioneers Project", a Personal Photo Journal featuring the profiles and photos of well-known researchers who contributed to the emergence of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The historical photographs were taken by Ben Shneiderman during his professional career, accompanied by personal reflections on his friends and colleagues. Ben Shneiderman said "My goal in creating this journal is to celebrate researchers who have contributed to the emergence of HCI as a field and to make them and their work visible to a wider audience." Having this in mind, he has written his personal appreciation for each of the personalities.

An excellent and valuable project initiated by a distinguished and highly respected scientist. We look forward to the addition of more photos and profiles in the future at:http://hcipioneers.wordpress.com

You can also read a very nice article from the NY Times about this at:
http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/09/07/humanizing-technology-a-history-of-human-computer-interaction/

Ben Shneiderman is a good friend of the HCI International Conference series, having done the opening keynote speech three times.

Constantine Stephanidis, University of Crete and ICS-FORTH, Greece
